Executive Summary (General Business): The City of Port St Lucie adopted the last Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement on January 24, 2022. Since then, this agreement has been updated and it is recommended we adopt the updated agreement allowing us to request or provide mutual in the event of a future emergency or disaster.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council complete the motion in the affirmative
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and complete the motion in the affirmative.
2. Move that the Council not approve and provide staff direction.
Background: Large-scale emergencies and disasters may exceed the capabilities of state and local government to effectively respond and recover. Resources may be required from outside the affected area to augment on-going efforts. Assistance may be provided from in-state mutual aid, inter-state mutual aid, and requests for federal assistance. The City of Port St Lucie adopted the last Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement in 2022. Since then, this agreement has been updated and it is recommended we adopt the updated agreement allowing us to request or provide mutual in the event of a future emergency or disaster.
Issues/Analysis: Adoption of the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement (SMAA) will allow the City of Port St Lucie to participate in the State-run mutual aid program.
Financial Information: There is no direct cost to the City for adopting the SMAA.
