Executive Summary (General Business): Camp Kangaroo offers children and families a safe and supportive environment to express their grief through various therapeutic avenues including music, art, and pet therapy as well as age-appropriate support groups and activities. Through Camp Kangaroo, children can connect with other grieving children and learn that they are not alone. The camp will be in Stuart, however, they are striving to reach as many grieving families as possible throughout Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties.
Presentation Information: Isabelle Rojas, Volunteer Coordinator with AccentCare Hospice & Palliative Care of the Treasure Coast, LLC will be present to address any questions.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council find that the sponsorship of the event serves a valid public and/or municipal purpose and approve the request.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and find that the sponsorship of the event serves a valid public and/or municipal purpose and approve selected items.
2. Move that the Council not approve the request and provide staff direction.
Background: The camp is scheduled for September 26-27 at the YMCA of the Treasure Coast in Stuart.
AccentCare Hospice & Palliative Care of the Treasure Coast, LLC in collaboration with Seasons Hospice Foundation is requesting promotion of the following items, which are in line with other sponsorship requests approved by the City Council:
1. Partnership with the City’s Communications Department for promotional support of the event.
Issues/Analysis: The City’s Communications Department has been advised of this request for assistance and will respond accordingly upon approval from City Council.
Financial Information: N/A
Special Consideration: Expenditure of public funds, including sponsorship of events, requires that the event serves a valid public/municipal purpose. Additionally, the location of this camp is outside City limits.
