Background: For the City of Port St. Lucie to attract an adequate number of officers for the growing population, and to keep up with retirements, separations, etc., many additional officers need to be onboarded and trained. By focusing on the current recruitment plan, we have already streamlined the hiring process without lowering the standards of what our community expects. The City of Port St. Lucie recognizes the need to move beyond traditional recruitment campaigns and is now ready to utilize web-based programs that will highlight the day-to-day aspects of police work. The goal is to attract candidates and to provide them with a more realistic view of responding to daily service calls and interacting with the community. By educating applicants that day-to-day policing work does not typically involve hostage situations, a car chase, and stopping an active shooter, we can attract a more diverse pool of applicants, retain them, and avoid turnover.
Issues/Analysis: Epic will provide the right high-performance website to attract top candidates and increase visibility not only in Florida but across the United States.
Financial Information: Funds will be from budgeted the Police Department funds, #001-2111-249000
Special Consideration: Non-construction related contracts amounting to $100,000.00 or more required formal competitive bidding, however, per the City of Port St. Lucie Code of Ordinances 35.008(a)(3), projects and contracts related to advertising may be excluded from formal competitive bidding, to serve the best interest of the City and its residents.
