Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve Amendment #1 to Contract #20220045 for the Construction of the Floresta Drive Improvement Project Phase II with Felix Associates of Florida, Inc.

Background: On 7/25, 2022, City Council approved Contract #20220045 for Floresta Drive Improvements Project Phase II in the amount of $29,997,174.23. Improvements to the Floresta Drive corridor is a priority of the City Council. The improvements include both a two-lane section with landscaped medians and a two-lane section with a bi-directional turn lane. Both sections include sidewalks, bike lanes, curb and gutter, landscaping, irrigation, water and sewer adjustments and pedestrian lighting. This phase also includes a bridge replacement and removal of an existing pedestrian bridge. The proposed design will reduce vibrations to surrounding infrastructure. Single phase construction will improve overall quality of the bridge by eliminating construction joints and the need for temporary critical walls.
Issues/Analysis: Amendment is requested to adjust the contract value to incorporate cost savings associated with Contractor re-design of the bridge piles/substructure to facilitate single-phase bridge construction as well as a full closure of Floresta Drive between Thanksgiving Avenue and Thornhill Drive for a period of 201 calendar days, as outlined herein.
Financial Information: Funds are appropriated in the Half Cent Sales Tax Funs / Road & Bridge / Improvements O/T Building (#310-4105-563000-00000).
