Executive Summary (General Business): The proposed artwork includes a sculpture described as an aluminum butterfly sculpture that includes colored acrylic infill areas and is approximately 12 feet in height and 10 foot 9 inches in width. The sculpture will be located on Becker Road approximately 2,000 feet from the Village Parkway and Becker Road intersection. 

 

Presentation Information: Staff may provide a short presentation.

 

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council adopt the resolution as recommended by the Public Art Advisory Board.

 

Alternate Recommendations:

1.                     Move that the Council amend the recommendation and adopt the resolution.

2.                     Move that the Council not adopt the resolution and provide direction.

 

Background: Charles DeSanti with DeSanti and Associates, Inc., agent for GRBK GHO BELTERRA, LLC, property owners, have submitted a public art application that proposes a butterfly. The butterfly sculpture proposal is estimated to cost $97,000, including art acquisition and installation. The project’s estimated construction costs exceed $9,700,000, which, according to the Art in Public Places ordinance, would require an artwork valued at $97,000.
