Executive Summary (General Business): The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) is requesting permission from the City Council to apply to the FY 2023 Microgrants Program: Community Policing Development (CPD). PSLPD intends to apply for funding of $175,000 to hire two full-time Civilian Background Investigators, along with related expenses to assist with PSLPD’s new recruitment plan. This grant covers a project period of one year starting October 1, 2023, with no match.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve the request to apply for the FY 2023 Microgrants Program: Community Policing Development (CPD).

 

Alternate Recommendations:

1.                     Move that the Council amend the recommendation and allow the PSLPD to apply for the FY 2023 Microgrants Program: Community Policing Development (CPD).

2.                     Move that the Council not approve the PSLPD’s request and provide staff direction.

 

Background: On March 8, 2023, the PSLPD received notification from the US DOJ COPS Office of various competitive grant opportunities. Of those grant programs, PSLPD desires to apply for the FY 2023 Microgrants Program: Community Policing Development (CPD), which has a due date of May 8, 2023.
