Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal of high-quality infrastructure and facilities.
Executive Summary (General Business): The City of Port St. Lucie proposes to rezone one vacant parcel totaling 0.23 acres, located on the south side of SW Thanksgiving Avenue, west of SW Airoso Boulevard and north of SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard. The request would change the zoning from Single-Family Residential (RS-2) to Institutional (I) with the intent to bring this City owned property adjacent to the City Hall Complex under the same zoning district. There are currently no proposed plans to construct any new buildings or structures on this property.
Presentation Information: Staff will provide a presentation.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve the Institutional rezoning.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and approved the Institutional rezoning with conditions.
2. Move that the Council deny the institutional rezoning and provide staff with direction.
Background: On September 1, 2026, the Planning & Zoning Board unanimously voted to recommend approval of the Institutional rezoning to the City Council.
Issues/Analysis: The proposed rezoning request for the property along SW Thanksgiving Avenue is consistent with the direction and intent of the City of Port St. Lucie Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code. The Institutional (I) Zoning District is compatible with the proposed Institutional (I) future land use classification per policy 1.1.4.13 of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
