Approval to Enter into an Agreement with Florida Power & Light for the Conversion of City-Wide Street Lighting from High Pressure Sodium Lighting to LED Lighting.
body
Submitted By: Sally Walsh, City Clerk.
Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal of high-quality infrastructure and facilities.
Executive Summary (General Business): Approval to enter into an agreement with FP&L to convert all high-pressure sodium street lighting throughout the City to energy efficient LED lighting.
Presentation Information: Eric Culling, Representative from FP&L available via Zoom if desired.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council Approve staff to move forward with completing agreements with FP&L.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and provide guidance.
2. Move that the Council not approve, provide staff with direction.
Background: FP&L notified the City that the availability of replacement parts for the currently used high-pressure sodium lighting will cease in the 1st quarter of 2024. All repairs or replacements beyond that time would result in the usage of an LED product. This would cause a variation in lighting in any given area which raises concern for photo metric uniformity. Staff has contacted various municipalities throughout the State who have made the conversion and received positive feedback. Staff recommends proceeding with the conversion in an effort to provide consistent, safe, clean lighting throughout the City, as well as the cost-saving benefits that will be achieved for our residents.

Financial Information: City Wide conversion is estimated to save the City approximately $68,000 annually in energy billing.
