Summary Brief (Agreements/Contracts only)

1.                     Prepared by: Spencer Scott, Deputy City Attorney.

2.                     Parties: City of Port St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee.

3.                     Purpose: To authorize the City Manager to execute the Memorandum of Understanding Agreement between the City of Port St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee for the United Way Golf Classic. Approve the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee’s sponsorship request to use the City’s logo and marketing support from the Communications Department for the United Way Golf Classic.

4.                     New/Renewal/Modified: New.

5.                     Duration: The Memorandum of Understanding Agreement and sponsorship request is for the United Way Golf Classic, which will be held on June 7, 2025.

6.                     Benefits to Port St. Lucie: Annually, the employees of the City of Port St. Lucie participate in the City’s United Way workplace campaign through payroll deduction and fundraisers. Funds raised from the United Way Golf Classic will be contributed towards the City’s annual United Way Workplace Campaign.

7.                     Cost to Port St. Lucie (Annual and Potential): N/A.

 

Presentation Information: Elijah Wooten (Economic Development Administrator) and Thom Epsky (President) will address any questions if the consent item is pulled for discussion by the City Council.

 

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council authorize the City Manager to execute the Memorandum of Understanding agreement between the City of Port St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee for the United Way Golf Classic. Approve the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee’s sponsorship request for the use of the City’s logo and marketing support from the Communications Department.

 

Alternate Recommendations:

1.                     Move that the Council amend the recommendation and authorize the City Manager to execute the memorandum of understanding agreement between the City of Port St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee for the United Way Golf Classic. Approve the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee’s sponsorship request for the use of the City’s logo and marketing support from the Communications Department for the United Way Golf Classic.

2.                     Move that the Council not authorize the City Manager to execute the memorandum of understanding agreement between the City of Port St. Lucie and the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee for the United Way Golf Classic. Not approve the United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee’s sponsorship request for the use of the City’s logo and marketing support from the Communications Department and provide staff direction.

 

Background: Annually, City employees participate in the City of Port St. Lucie’s United Way Workplace Campaign through payroll deduction and fundraising activities. The funds raised from the United Way Golf Classic will go towards the City of Port St. Lucie’s United Way Workplace Campaign for 2025.

 

Issues/Analysis: The United Way is a 501c3, which has been in operation since 1962. The United Way of St. Lucie and Okeechobee has successfully raised funding through donations and fundraising to award community impact grants for programs that impact basic needs, education, financial stability and health in St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties. Thanks to the generous contributions of the employees of the City of Port St. Lucie, the City’s Annual Workplace Campaign has raised a combined $346,641 over the past 23 years. The funds raised from the United Way Golf Classic will go towards the City’s Workplace Campaign in 2025.
