Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve the proposed District Office Lease for Congressman Mast and authorize future renewals as needed.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and approve the proposed District Office Lease.
2. Move that the Council deny the proposed District Office Lease and provide staff direction.
Background: The office space, located in room 187 of City Hall, has been utilized by Congressman Brian Mast as a local District Office since January 2017. The current lease term expires on January 2, 2021. Congressman Mast was re-elected to serve as member of the 117th Congress and has requested renewal of the District Office Lease for the term of January 3, 2021 through January 2, 2023.
Issues/Analysis: The proposed renewal of the District Office Lease Agreement between the City of Port St. Lucie and Congressman Brian Mast is for a period commencing January 3, 2021 through January 2, 2023, which is the last day of the Congressional term of the 117th Congress. The district team of Congressman Mast will utilize the space full time, primarily for the use of constituent services involving case work, administration, and providing personal assistance to constituents through the district.
The terms of the lease shall remain unchanged to the current lease, including the rent amount. Upon approval by Council, the lease will be provided to the Administrative Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives who has final authority to authorize the lease.
Financial Information: District Office Lease Agreement to run January 3, 2021 through January 2, 2023, which is the end of the Congressional term of the 117th Congress, with a monthly rental fee of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), which amount is consistent with the rental fee included in the original lease terms.
Special Consideration: All original lease terms remain unchanged; the only modification is to the term of the lease which reflects the term of the 117th Congress: January 3, 2021 through January 2, 2023; as well as providing for renewals of the lease as needed.
