Executive Summary (General Business): The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) is requesting permission from the City Council to accept the federally allocated funds from the FY 2022 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Local Solicitation (Category 1 - Applicants with eligible allocation amounts of less than $25,000). This local solicitation in the amount of $21,609 will be used to conduct a research project to combat retail theft within the City of Port St. Lucie partnering with the University of Florida. The grant allows for a duration of 24 months, covering the period from October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2024. PSLPD intends to expend the funds by September 30, 2023.

Background: On June 22, 2022, the City of Port St. Lucie received notification from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) of the allocation of the FY 2021 Local JAG funds totaling $21,609.
Issues/Analysis: PSLPD intends to use the allocated Local JAG funds in the following manner: To conduct a research project to combat retail theft within the City of Port St. Lucie partnering with the University of Florida.
