Background: The Regional Crime Laboratory at Indian River State College provides evidence analysis and laboratory services to twelve law enforcement agencies across the four-county region of St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River, and Okeechobee. Each agency’s annual cost share is determined based on its population and overall usage among the participating agencies. The budget is reviewed and approved during the annual meeting. The City has utilized this laboratory since 1995, and the interlocal agreement amount the twelve law enforcement agencies to coordinate the funding, administration, and management of the crime lab remains in effect until formally terminated. Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) is requesting to continue use of this agreement, with the proposed budget amount set at $672,023 for FY2026-2027.
Issues/Analysis: The laboratory services and evidence analysis provided by the Regional Crime Laboratory at Indian River State College are vital to supporting the operations of PSLPD.
