Board Member Appointments to the Planning and Zoning Board

body

Submitted By: Teresa Lamar-Sarno, AICP, Deputy City Manager

Strategic Plan Link: The City’s Mission to plan for smart and balanced growth.

Executive Summary (General Business): The Planning and Zoning Board held interviews to provide a recommendation to City Council to fill their vacancies.  This item provides a recommendation to appoint Carol Taylor-More as an At-Large Member to the board.

Presentation Information: n/a

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council appoint Carol Taylor-More as an At-Large Member to the Planning and Zoning Board

Alternate Recommendations:

1.                     Move that the Council amend the recommendation and appoint another applicant to the Planning and Zoning Board.

2.                     Move that the Council not approve any of the interested applicants and have the Planning and Zoning Board consider new applicants.

Background: At September 7 board meeting, 4 candidates were interviewed to serve on the Planning and Zoning Board.  The board recommended the top two ranked candidates, Carol Taylor-More, to serve as an at-large member, and Greg Pettibon to continue to serve as an Alternate.  However, the following morning Mr. Pettibon emailed City staff that we was resigning from the position as Alternate and did not want to be considered for any other position on the board.  Staff will be bringing an item to the Planning and Zoning Board in October to request that the board recommend the third ranked candidate, Jeffrey Luchtmen to serve as an alternate member.  Staff can return to City Council with that recommendation in October.  As an alternative, the City Council could, as the decision body, appoint the two remaining members that were interviewed and ranked as alternates.
