Executive Summary (General Business): At the 2022 City Council Winter Workshop, the Utility Systems Director announced that he would lead the Utility Systems Department to become accredited. Two years later, that goal has now been accomplished.
Presentation Information: Kevin Matyjaszek and Robert Garland, the APWA Director of Region VI, will provide a short presentation that should be approximately 20 minutes in duration.
Staff Recommendation: Request that the Council hear the department’s brief presentation regarding the APWA accreditation.
Background: In 2023, the Utility Systems Department “USD” hired an Accreditation & Performance Manager that would help in becoming accredited but also would assist with maintaining department accreditation in the future. Upon filling this position and within 13 months, staff completed rigorous evaluations of each division’s policies and procedures, participated in a peer review with other accredited agencies and conducted a site visit with APWA representatives. At the site visit, USD had to demonstrate that it was in full compliance with at least 95% of the applicable practices. This threshold was met by the end of the site visit and we received the recommendation for accreditation which was sent to the APWA Board for final review and approval.
