Background: The State’s Florida Housing Coalition has honored the Neighborhood Services Housing Team with an award for its State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Homeowner Repair & Rehabilitation program. The team thanks Florida Housing Coalition for being so instrumental in supporting the City for nearly 30 years with this grant program. The Sadowski Housing Trust funds change lives.
The City has been a recipient and works to secure and distribute housing funds from the State to its residents since 1993, as soon as the William E. Sadowski Affordable Housing Act was passed. Building from one year to the next, thanks to the consistent and steady management of this well-established program, the City will continue to help address housing issues in our community, with these funds. Most recently the City’s program has focused on low-income, homeowner repair and rehabilitation assisting households to execute much need life safety repairs on their homes, which they might not have otherwise been able to afford. This program is key to helping prevent displacement, keeping people in their homes, helping senior citizens age in place, being responsive to the community, keeping our neighborhoods vibrant and maintaining the City’s high rate of homeownership, 78%. This rate is exceptionally high, more than ten percentage points higher than the State and Nation.
