Summary Brief (Agreements/Contracts only)
1. Prepared by: Florida’s Division of Emergency Management
2. Parties: City of Port St. Lucie Office of Emergency Management
3. Purpose: Enabling the City of Port St Lucie to maximize the full and effective use of resources of all participating governments in the event of an emergency or a disaster by entering into this agreement
4. New/Renewal/Modified: Renewal
5. Duration: This agreement renews annually, unless within sixty (60) calendar days before that date the City of Port St Lucie notifies the Division, in writing, of its intent to withdraw from the Agreement.
6. Benefits to Port St. Lucie: Allows the City the ability to request or render mutual aid to requesting parties during a disaster at a fixed cost as stipulated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency or Florida’s Division of Emergency Management
7. Cost to Port St. Lucie (Annual and Potential): No cost unless this agreement is activated during an emergency

Background: Large-scale emergencies and disasters may exceed the capabilities of state and local government to effectively respond and recover Resources may be required from outside the affected area to augment on-going efforts. Assistance may be provided from in-state mutual aid, inter-state mutual aid, and requests for federal assistance. The City of Port St Lucie adopted the last Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement in 2000. Since then, this agreement has been updated and it is recommended we adopt the updated agreement allowing us to request or provide mutual in the event of a future emergency or disaster.
Issues/Analysis: Adoption of the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement (SMAA) will allow the City of Port St Lucie to participate in the State run mutual aid program.
Financial Information: There is no direct cost to the City for adopting the SMAA
