Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal for vibrant neighborhoods.

Executive Summary (General Business): An ordinance which effectively adopts a 25 mph speed limit within 27 designated neighborhoods per criteria promulgated by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and consistent with Section 316.189 F.S. permitting municipalities to set speed zones after investigation determines such a change is reasonable and in conformance with the aforementioned criteria.

Presentation Information: Staff may provide a brief presentation.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve the ordinance.

Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and approve the ordinance
2. Move that the Council not approve and provide staff direction

Background: In May of 2021, Kimley Horn (consultant) upon directive from city staff completed the Residential Street Areawide Speed Limit Analysis. With the completion of this analysis, 27 neighborhoods were identified to meet the criteria as set forth by FDOT permitting a municipality to reduce the standard 30 mph speed limit. On June 21, 2021 these findings were presented to City Council and staff was provided directive to draft an ordinance effectively reducing the speed limit to 25 mph within the target areas.
