Executive Summary (General Business): Review and adoption of the Proposed 2025 State Legislative Program.
Presentation Information: Deputy City Manager Kate Parmelee will provide an approximately 10-minute presentation of the Proposed 2025 State Legislative Program.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council adopt the Proposed 2025 State Legislative Program.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and adopt the Proposed 2025 State Legislative Program.
2. Move that the Council provide staff direction on the Proposed 2025 State Legislative Program.
Background: The St. Lucie Legislative Delegation is meeting on December 16, 2024, to receive input from various entities, including the City of Port St. Lucie, on its legislative priorities for the 2025 Legislative Session, which convenes on March 4, 2025. The City must submit its priorities and projects prior to the Legislative Delegation Meeting to present to the Delegation. The first Interim Committee Week is the week of December 9th.
Issues/Analysis: The proposed program includes the items from last year's legislative priorities and new requests which are outlined in the program. The Florida League of Cities will finalize its 2025 legislative program during its annual conference in December 2024. Additionally, the Legislative Program includes support of the Draft 2025 St. Lucie County Legislative Program common priorities in the areas of Unfunded Mandates and Budget, Economic Development, Environmental/Natural Resources, Transportation & Infrastructure, Public Safety, Health & Human Services, Education and Agriculture.
