Executive Summary (General Business): The Port St. Lucie Police Department requests permission to apply for and use State allocated funds totaling $26,627 from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE-State) of their FY 20 Justice Assistance Grant Countywide (JAGC) application for law enforcement technology. The allocated funds represent one-third of the total awarded/allocated ($79,881) to St. Lucie County. The grant is for FY 2021, covering the period from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council approve the request to proceed with the submittal of 51% letter and application of the State (FDLE) FY 2021-2022 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAGC).

1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and approve the request to proceed with the submittal of 51% letter and application of the State (FDLE) FY 2021-2022 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAGC).
2. Move that the Council does not approve and/or provide staff direction on the request.
Background: On April 1, 2021, the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) received notification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) of the FY 2020 JAG-Countywide (JAGC) grant allocations. The amount allocated to St. Lucie County was $79,881 of which our agency's one-third share is $26,627. On April 6, 2021, the County requested that once a determination of a project was made, PSLPD will submit a "51% Letter," signed by the Mayor, to FDLE by Friday, May 14, 2021.
