Response to Martin County Board of County Commission Letter Regarding Extension of Village Parkway

Executive Summary (General Business): On December 10, 2020 the City received a letter (Exhibit A) from Martin County referencing the Mattamy LLC, Large Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment Text Amendment (P20-059) that proposes changes to the concept plan. The letter notes that the conceptual plan lacks a connection of SW Village Parkway south of SW Becker Road into Martin County. A proposed extension of SW Village Parkway from its current terminus at Becker Road over the C-23 Canal and south to County Road 714 (SW Martin Highway) in Martin County was depicted on the 2035 Regional Long-Range Transportation Plan (RLPTP). The 2035 RLPTP was adopted in 2011. The proposed southern extension of Village Parkway into Martin County was not included in the 2040 St Lucie Transportation Planning Organization LRTP plan that was adopted in 2017.This agenda item is prepared with the intent to receive direction to send the attached draft response to Taryn Kryzda, County Administrator.

Presentation Information: Presentation by staff can be provided if requested by City Council.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Board approve for City staff to send the attached letter as a direct response to the Martin County letter.

1. Move that the Board amend the recommendation and provide further direction.
2. Move that the Board reject the draft letter and provide further direction.

Background: The St. Lucie County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is responsible for the regional transportation needs and planning.
