body
Submitted By: Eric Sexauer, Manager - CIP & Sales Tax Project Group
Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal of high-quality infrastructure and facilities.
Executive Summary (General Business): Staff will provide the City Council with an update, including proposed expenditures for the 2029-2038 Half-Cent Sales Tax project opportunities should the Half-Cent Sales Tax renewal be approved by the majority of the voters.
Presentation Information: 15-minute presentation
Staff Recommendation: Request that the Council hear and view presentation on 2029-2038 Half-Cent Sales Tax Proposed expenditures.
Background: On November 6, 2018, voters approved Ballot Question #14, the referendum to levy a Half-Cent Sales Tax for a period of 10 years. Staff has recommended that St. Lucie County place the renewal for years 2029-2038 on the November 2026 ballot to allow residents to vote on the extension. Staff will continue to ensure full transparency by delivering quarterly progress and project updates to the Infrastructure Surtax Oversight Committee.
Issues/Analysis: The ability to plan and implement infrastructure improvements depends on the renewal or extension of the current Half-Cent Sales Tax program.
Financial Information: The Half-Cent Sales Tax provides critical funding for projects to provide better roads, sidewalks, and a cleaner river.
