Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal of a high-performing city government organization.

Executive Summary (General Business): In 2011 the Engineering Department and Public Works Department were combined into one department, to date this has not been codified. The proposed ordinance codifies the combined department, staff and responsibilities by amending City Code Chapter 32, Article IV.

Presentation Information: Staff is available to provide a summary of the revisions and answer questions.

Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council complete the motion in the affirmative.

Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and complete the motion in the affirmative.
2. Move that the Council not approve and provide staff direction.

Background: In 2011, the then City Manager consolidated the Engineering Department and Public Works Department into one department. This ordinance presents the recommended revisions to City Code Chapter 32 - Departments, Boards and Commissions, Article IV to formally consolidate the two departments into the Public Works Department.

Issues/Analysis: City Code Chapter 32, Article IV establishes and identifies the responsibilities of the Engineering Department; and currently in the City Code there is no establishment and identification of responsibilities for the Public Works Department. The recommended updates proposed herein serve to codify the combined departments, staff, and responsibilities by updating City Code Chapter 32, Article IV.
