Interim City Attorney Options
body
Submitted By: Kristina Ciuperger, Deputy City Manager
Strategic Plan Link: The City's Mission to provide exceptional municipal services.
Executive Summary (General Business): With the recent resignation of the City Attorney and at the Council's request, research was conducted as to the availability of law firms to assist the City with Interim City Attorney services.
Presentation Information: Staff is available to address any Council questions.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council discuss and provide staff direction.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and provide staff direction
2. Move that the Council not approve and provide staff direction
Background: The firm of Torcivia, Donlon, Goddeau & Rubin assisted the city initially with reaching out to several law firms as to their availability to provide such services. Several firms declined because of conflict and one due to the existing independent special magistrate relationship with the city. Additionally, the City Manager's office reached out to Weiss Serota as to their availability.
The following firms have responded in interest: Mason, Bolves, Donaldson, Tanner; Bryant, Miller, Olive; Weiss, Serota; and Torcivia, Donlon, Goddeau & Rubin. Attached for Council's review are the letters of interest from the available firms and references.
Additionally, Richard Berrios, Deputy City Attorney, has expressed interest and asked to be considered for the role. Attached is his resume.
