Executive Summary (General Business): The City Council needs to make a determination as to which optional services it requests from the Supervisor of Elections Office for the upcoming Special Election(s).
Presentation Information: The City Attorney and City Clerk are available to answer questions as needed.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council select which, if any, of the optional services it wishes to include in the upcoming Special Election(s).
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council provide direction to staff to explore additional options.
2. Move that the Council take no action and seek additional information.
Background: The City will have a Special Election, in addition to a possible Special Primary Election, to fill the vacancies of the Mayor's Seat and Council District Three Seat. The Supervisor of Elections has several services were are, pursuant to the Florida Elections Code, optional during a municipal election. Each option has an estimated cost associated.
Issues/Analysis: In order to run a successful and lawful election, the Supervisor of Elections needs to know which of the optional services the City wishes to select and fund. As optional items, none of these items are required by state or local law.
Financial Information: Each optional item has a cost associated and expressed on the memorandum. These costs are estimates and the City will be responsible for the actual cost, whether higher or lower.
