Executive Summary (General Business): Councilman Pickett proposes a Veterans & First Responders Banner Program to honor veterans and first responders with banners displayed on decorative light poles along Crosstown Parkway and potentially Village Parkway. Using breakaway arm systems and banding, banners ensure structural integrity and safety. Families or veterans and first responders will fund banners, fostering civic pride and recognition.

Staff Recommendation: Request that the Council discuss the proposed program.
Background: The Veterans & First Responders Banner Program for Hometown Heroes is proposed to recognize and honor the sacrifices of local veterans and active-duty service members. This initiative aims to celebrate their contributions while fostering civic pride and patriotism within the community.
The program takes inspiration from successful models in other cities and will feature personalized banners displaying the honoree's name, rank, branch of service, or job title. These banners will be purchased by the honorees or their families and installed by the City on decorative light poles along Crosstown Parkway and/or Village Parkway. The installation process will use banded brackets to protect the integrity of the poles, avoiding permanent alterations or damage.
