BODY
Submitted By: Alessandra Tasca, Community Programs Administrator, Neighborhood Services Department
Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal for vibrant neighborhoods.
Executive Summary (General Business): Special presentation of the first N.I.C.E. Community Involvement Awards for special volunteer action that helped residents of our City prepare in advance of the Hurricane Dorian event.
Presentation Information: Approximately ten minutes.
Staff Recommendation: Request that the Council acknowledge and greet the recipient organizations, present certificates and medals, and pose for a group photo.
Background: For going above and beyond in service to their fellow citizens, the Neighborhood Services Department is pleased to introduce the N.I.C.E. Community Involvement Award and recognize three organizations: Calvary Port St. Lucie, Christ Fellowship, and the Bridge Effect Foundation, Inc. These groups are being honored for their volunteer help to vulnerable Port St. Lucie residents unable to prepare their homes in advance of the storm.
The three organizations being recognized volunteered to work in furtherance of the City's role in helping coordinate volunteers and donations (ESF 15) during an emergency through the Governor's Volunteer Florida Organization and the Florida State Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD).
Issues/Analysis: The Neighborhood Services Department would like to commence periodic recognition of special community involvement initiatives. The N.I.C.E. Community Involvement Award will be available during blue and grey skies to recognize when people or organizations go above and beyond to help their neighbors, community, and City as a whole.
