Executive Summary (General Business): The Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS), is a core planning document generated by multiple local government and not-for-profit agencies to guide mitigation processes countywide. The LMS per Federal Regulations (44 CFR? 201.6) must be monitored, evaluated, and updated every five years, then be adopted by jurisdictions participating in the plan.

Background: The Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) is a guiding document collaborated upon by multiple agencies Countywide including, the County, the Cities of Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce, the Fire District, and multiple partner agencies and not for profits. Every five years the County submits an updated version of the LMS to the State's Division of Emergency Management, after which time the jurisdictions and not for profits affiliated with the LMS adopt the plan. The City of Port St. Lucie last adopted the LMS on December 16, 2016. The Office of Emergency Management uses the LMS for mitigation activities and as an integral part of the City of Port St. Lucie's Community Ratings System (CRS) contributing to its Floodplain Management Plan and the Program for Public Information.
