Executive Summary (General Business): A legislative update and preview will be provided along with review and adoption of the Proposed 2026 State Legislative Program.
Presentation Information: An approximately 20-minute presentation will be provided by members of the legislative team.
Staff Recommendation: Move that the Council hear the update and adopt the Proposed 2026 State Legislative Program.
Alternate Recommendations:
1. Move that the Council amend the recommendation and hear the update and adopt the Proposed 2026 State Legislative Program.
2. Move that the Council provide direction on the Proposed 2026 State Legislative Program.
Background: The St. Lucie Legislative Delegation is meeting on October 29, 2025 to receive input from various entities, including the City of Port St. Lucie, on its legislative priorities for the 2026 Legislative Session. The 2026 Florida Legislative Session convenes on January 13, 2026. The City must submit its priorities and projects prior to the Legislative Delegation Meeting to present to the Delegation. Interim Committee Weeks are currently underway.
Issues/Analysis: The proposed program includes the items from last year's legislative priorities and new requests which are outlined in the program. The Florida League of Cities will finalize its 2026 legislative program during its legislative conference in December 2025. Additionally, the Legislative Program includes support of 2026 St. Lucie County Legislative Program in common priorities in the areas of Unfunded Mandates and Budget, Economic Development, Environmental/Natural Resources, Transportation & Infrastructure, Public Sa...
