body
Submitted By: Carmen A. Capezzuto, Neighborhood Services Department

Strategic Plan Link: The City's Goal for vibrant neighborhoods.

Executive Summary (General Business): Habitat for Humanity recently completed a 2-year project with the Neighborhood Services Department by constructing 7 homes for the affordable housing needs of the City. This agenda item requests to acknowledge the City Council and staff on a successful partnership.

Presentation Information: St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity Executive Director, Bob Calhoun and Development & Marketing Director Melissa Winstead will make a 10-minute presentation.

Staff Recommendation: Request that the Council hear the presentation and congratulate St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity on their successful completion of the project.

Background: The City, through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP), purchased and demolished several blighted properties that were in foreclosure during the Recession nearly a decade ago. With the approval of City Council on 5/22/17, a Letter of Interest (LOI) for the development of seven lots into affordable housing was advertised to Non-Profit agencies giving them 24 months to construct homes on the lots to provide housing to low income families as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). St Lucie Habitat for Humanity graciously accepted the challenge of building 7 homes within 24 months with the first home completed in 2018 as part of Treasure Coast Builders Association Dream Home that was constructed within seven days.

Issues/Analysis: St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity has requested to give a presentation to the City Council regarding completion of the project.
